Video favourites of 2015 by the From The Hip Video team

With 2016 nearly upon us, we have looked back on 2015 to share with you a few of our favourite videos and adverts from the year. A round up of what we thought was clever, inspiring, funny or just plain noteworthy content.

Hope they make you smile during the festive season. They certainly will give you an insight into the From the Hip Video team! What it does show is that big budgets aren’t always essential to make a video memorable. Emotion wins hands down.

Happy Christmas!

I love everything about this video! Mountains. Snow. Production. Music. Clever use of technology.

I’m a massive mountains and snow fan and the brilliance of the scenery and ski-ing capability captured is amazing – not only as a skier but as a Film Director too – and the music fits the mood perfectly. Most importantly what I love about this video is that someone at Philips Ambilight TV, somewhere, gave this the go-ahead to be funded. Creativity won. Brave.

The ‘Thirsty for’ series has long been a favourite of mine – these recipe videos are so inspiring. They have very carefully selected music, with a fresh creative approach to the graphics within the video. The videos always have lots of movement and feel completely in harmony with the recipe yet with an unmistakable ‘Thirsty for’ style. Very clever and I love watching them. My only criticism would be that the recipes often have speciality ingredients I am not going to find in my local shops. Keep ‘em coming “Thirsty for.”

I subscribe to Acoustic Trench as I love dogs and music and this Youtube channel delivers both. This compilation of vines makes me laugh every time and no matter how many times I watch it, I still can’t work out if the dog is actually doing some of the beats! Love it.

Personally, it’s Apple for me. They always make me see how I could benefit from their product in my life – and their latest iPad advert is no exception.

Facetiming my little girl when I’m away? Yes please. Helping me remember facts from meetings? Always handy. Put simply, they do very clever product demos and use everyday scenarios with enough practical and emotional pulls thrown in – and they use this approach consistently across their product ranges – for sure it’s the reason why I own an iPad!

For me, the Amazon Prime adverts win hands down for 2015. What better way to promote a next day courier service than by pulling at your heart strings. Leaving your child at nursery is an emotional time and I connect well with the dads emotions and the music builds the story. I look forward to seeing the next advert in the series.

I LOVE mountain biking and this video inspires me and makes me wish I was racing down a mountain in the great outdoors. The music is fitting and the film combines well different filming techniques – which appeals to the cameraman in me. It’s energetic and always gets me focused for the day ahead.

That’s it for 2015. See you in 2016 for the next From the Hip Video blog post.
